2024 Innovators Retreat

IM Next: next steps in intrinsic motivation

Jewish Innovation Education Challenge (JEIC) hosted 110 Jewish day school innovators, experts, and influencers who are shaping the future of Jewish day school education at the 2024 Innovators Retreat. The group explored the conference's theme, IM Next: Next Steps in Intrinsic Motivation, with best-selling author and education professor,
Dr. Catlin Tucker. Together, they learned how to implement student-centered learning at their schools, helping to reshape the Jewish day school ecosystem's approach to connecting students with Jewish wisdom, texts and identity.

Mayberg Foundation Trustee Manette Mayberg inspired IR24 participants to consider “how to stimulate field-wide change in thinking and practice” about cultivating intrinsic motivation in Jewish day school students.

Pre-Conference Learning with Dr. Catlin Tucker:
The Shift to Student-led Learning

In this pre-IR learning session, The Shift to Student-led Learning, Dr. Tucker explored how to use personalized learning models to give students some control over their own learning. This can help students develop into self-aware learners who can make meaning out of their learning. This kind of learning also allows teachers to circulate throughout the classroom and spend more time coaching individual and small groups of learners.
